Separated from Le Bono since 1947,
The village of Plougoumelen, at the foot of its imposing church, boasts a particular curiosity: a cross known as the ‘double Celtic cross’, the only one of its kind in the world, a listed monument whose origin remains unclear.
A very large commune, Plougoumelen is an inviting place to stroll, to hike along the coastal path, in the Pont Sal wood or to discover its various places of interest: the thatched cottages in the hamlet of Cahire, the chapel of Saint-Thuriau in Lestreviau and its wash-houses.
Le Traon
Situated on the left bank of the River Sal, this arm of the Bono river is a natural site that offers a beautiful panorama with a coastal path that reveals magnificent landscapes between ‘Land and Sea’.
The vast clearing and its pine forest provide the perfect spot to take a break on the grass, on the small beach or at one of the 2 picnic tables.
Thanks to its slipway, sailors have access to the Gulf of Morbihan, up the river from Le Bono and then from Auray. As the river bed is shallow, the site is only suitable for boats with a very shallow draught.
The Traon is also a superb playground for kayakers and other paddlers.
