To supplement the tjotter fleet of its sailing school in Heeg, the Dutch Youth Hostel Centrale had a new small tjotter built by Berend de Jong in 1953. According to the above list, this is a single-pass boat. “Berend de Jong supplied it as a shell,” says Pier Piersma. “It was built as a fishing boat with a double plane, without a bun. At that time you still had to pay tax for a boat, but the tax for a fishing boat was lower than for a pleasure boat. Heit agreed with Berend de Jong that the boat had been built on paper on behalf of a fisherman, who ordered it halfway through. This way, Heit was able to get the boat cheaper, because it was registered as a commercial vessel. Having it delivered as a shell also saved money. Heit made the centreboards, mast and boom himself and he rigged it himself.”
Sailing characteristics: The Wylp has a somewhat smaller rig and is very handy. A wonderful sailing
tjotter in which everything is easy to operate.
